The Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center is pleased to announce the River Cane Renaissance Exhibit, on loan from the Mountain Heritage Museum in Cullowhee, will be featured in the Lucas Mansion’s main art gallery during January and February, 2024. The Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center is delighted to present its Emerging Artist Exhibit for February and March. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the charming needle-felted works of artist Kendra Pearson-Hilt, who has always had a deep affinity for animals. In 2022, she began needle-felting. Kendra specializes in creating replicas of personal pets and starts each one with a small red heart felted and placed in the chest cavity to symbolize the love between the pet and owner. The Center is excited to announce the details of the 2024 Regional Arts Competitions for both youth and adults! Youth works will be featured at the Lucas Mansion from March 2nd - March 29th. We are thrilled to co-sponsor a celebration in honor of Black History Month, in partnership with the NAACP. The event is scheduled to take place on Sat, 2/24, at 2 pm, at the Hiddenite Center’s Educational Complex Ballroom. The festivities will comprise a keynote speaker, talented live performers, and a delicious food spread. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Bridge Community. Join us on Friday, March 15 from 7-9 pm at the Hiddenite Center's Education Complex for an evening filled with Irish dance, Gaelic music, and delectable food. A highlight of this program will be a performance by St. Joseph’s Irish Dancers, led by founder Meg Barrett. Attendees will enjoy a traditional Irish spread. Kid Entrepreneurs (ages 5-17) are invited to join us at the Hiddenite Center’s Educational Complex on Sat, 3/9, 10am - 1pm. This opportunity has been designed to give kids a chance to experience facets of business ownership in a safe & encouraging environment. Participants may register for FREE. Presenting a unique and exciting heritage workshop designed specifically for kids! Join slingshot expert Arthur Duncan for two workshops geared toward teaching kids the art of slingshot shooting and construction. The NC Heritage Fair will be Wed, April 24th, at the Center’s educational complex. Attendees will get to see, touch, and feel elements of North Carolina’s history during this one-of-a-kind educational event! Guests can expect live demonstrations, costumed historical interpreters, and interactive hands-on learning opportunities. Time blocks will start at 8:45 am, 10:15 am, and 12:30 pm. See Winnie the Pooh at our Educational Complex on April 25th at 9:30 am. The ASU Young People's Theater is bringing back to life the timeless tales of Winnie-the-Pooh and his beloved companions. This interactive stage production, originally written by A.A. Milne as a gift to his son, Christopher Robin, is a light-hearted rendition that is sure to delight people of all ages. Join us for a crochet workshop suitable for both adults and kids on Sat, 5/18 from 10am to noon at the Hiddenite Center’s Educational Complex. Participants will learn fundamental crocheting skills. Additionally, students will receive resources to support their progress. Instructor Lisa Ray's goal is to inspire others to create beautiful and practical fiber art pieces.
